What about the leaks from retro-fitted grooved couplings? What on earth makes
the integrity of a coupling rubber arbitrarily higher than a mechanical tee?
Retrofit on galv pipe? Nice and smooth, eh?

This whole issue is predicated on a false premise, in my
not-so-humble-and-grumpy opinion.

Subject: Re: Galvanized pipe - threaded reducer tees vs. thread-o-lets

If they're so worried about contamination maybe they should use
stainless or copper and have all welds certified by a nuclear welder.
