Hi Santiago,
Thanks for letting me know. I thought this problem only occurred for
Canopy users but given that that's not the case, I have to look deeper
at it.
Cheers,
Carlos

Hi Carlos, all,
I am on a MBP-Haswell-OSX-10.9. I have a brewed Python installation
running in//usr/local/bin/python/, and a functional ipython qtconsole
- version 1.2.1.
I downloaded and installed the Spyder-2.3.0 dmg. When I fire Spyder I
am also getting the "frontend and kernel versions are*incompatible*"
issue at the IPython console. The path in menu
/Spyder/Console/Advanced settings/Python executable/ is
//usr/local/bin/python/
When I change the path to the default one, IPython console runs just
fine, but I think in that way I am working in the OSX Python
installation, which is not desirable.
Best,
Santiago

I'm getting the same error with the new Spyder 2.3.0 Mac App.
I'm pointing the python executable to a MacPorts Python
distribution (/opt/local/bin/python). My python versions are
Python 2.7.8_1 and iPython 2.1.0_2.
I can successfully use the interpreter selection "Default (i.e.
the same as Spyder's)"

Hi Andy,
I checked this out yesterday and there seems to be a problem
in our side when trying to detect if IPython is installed in
Canopy or not. This is failing right now and that's why you
are seeing that error message. I need to investigate further
to know why this is happening.
Cheers,
Carlos
