Thanks to Larry's tip, I contacted Alan Rice who intends to build a live steamer , (intend, intend intend!) and he referred me to a John Felt who is into "off list" scale. John works for one of the timber companies where he works as a machinist. He builds 1-1/2 scale locos 7-1/2" gauge and is a master machinist. I forget what his current engine is but he does belong to the Southern Oregon Live Steamers so he travels up there with his engines. He is currently building a museum piece and I expect to visit him soon--but it is an hours drive south. With all due to respect to John, he does not have much interest in gauge one. Boy! what he is missing! BTW; I did meet him at one of our club meets he last attended about ten years ago! Now to keep this message within the perimeter that will please Dave, I will write about my own vast and time consuming experience with BRASS. That is the brass I know about is all the brass on my Royal Marine uniform in WW11 which I had to polish - and all the bloody "brass" I had to salute. Now I am getting brassed off all over again! When I see John Felt, I will let him inform on his brassy opinions and will report- if I remember, which I probably won't- so don't fret!
