Thanks for the acknowledgement, steamed brass it is! Now I have a friend, John, who wants me to come and see his huge locos- I can also get his opinion on brass and loco wheel tread designs! Hey maybe I'll convert to 1-1/2" scale and leave the list. In my dotage, all I need is to haul around 600# engines!! I would have to borrow our California Gov and his muscles! Seriously ( if possible!) I have made small brass parts over the years, the toughest being a double banjo bolt for a Merlin Hunslet, I have always bought the necessary brass stock from Coles and I have never had any problems. I believe that paying a little more and getting good stuff is better than trying to use old scrap metal and paying the price! We cannot afford to be "cheap" in this hobby.
