TechTool has the option to save comments. It is a much better Desktop
Folder rebuilder than the Apple+Option keys at start up.

Just to be certain it is not Apple Menu Items, you might try moving them
all to a folder on your desktop, then shutting down and doing a cold
boot-up. Then you can just move them back.
