I don't know what exactly you want to do with the multi-threading, but just
drawing two objects in two threads simultaneously to the same context won't
improve performance; I'm pretty sure it won't work at all. I _believe_ you
can do other things in a separate thread and a separate context (like
loading resources to share with the main context), but I don't know that
this would help much in Stellarium's case.

If you could get all of the Open GL stuff in one rendering thread, separate
from the CPU-bound stuff, that alone would provide a significant boost. I'm
pretty sure Stellarium does everything, save maybe texture loading, in one
thread.
