One of the first items of equipment to buy BEFORE the
first chisel is a good dust mask. The twin-filter half
masks with replaceable filters work out cheaper than
disposable masks in the long term.
ALL fine dusts, whether from stone or otherwise should
be treated with caution. You only get one pair of
lungs, look after them.
You should also get goggles to protect your eyes; the
first strike of the chisel could make the stone chip fly
that takes your sight.
I tend to buy some of the cheaper goggles and replace
them often as the abrasive stone dust tends to scratch
the lenses quite quickly.
