I think you are taking my comments a little out of
context but that is fine since it reinforces your
ideas to do so. The iraq comparison is a little silly
though isn't it?
I'd like to jump in with Mary on that one. By the way, thanks Mary. I thought it well written.
The issue of choice is often brought up by those favoring free market decision making process. But choice is not often defined. I always wonder why people continue to live in Cities that I considered barely above sewers. I drove thru areas of Gary Indiana and wondered what was keeping people there. No one is forcing them to live there? When someone says no one forces them (job, where to live, what to eat) I suspect that they are not aware of all the various 'forces' that are in play. And maybe not aware of the legitimacy of some of these forces. Fear? Concern for children? Pride? Laziness? Unwareness? Pain? Culture? Lack of resources? Expectations? Addictions? No, I don't think the Iraq comparison is silly. Just another set of forces being applied, and maybe not recognized.
'No one forces them' needs to be added to my list that contains other statements like 'protecting the environment is fine as long as it's economically feasible', and then not define feasible (gives you an idea of what I think of some free market decision making processes).
Yes I know I've gone from 'St. Paul', but not from the issue being discussed.
