Dave should just start a new trend and get a liquor license for his
smoke-free gallery. Go to Sydney's (do they even have booze?). If people
want smoke-free bars and juke joints then by all means, BUILD THEM!

A friend of mine won't/can't come to our house because we have a dog and
the dog-ness will make him sick. He would never dream of asking us to get
rid of our dog so he can come over! He's got plenty of other places to go
without imposing his will on us. The dog may be shortening my life for all
I know, but I don't mind.

What's wrong with having smoking bars and non-smoking bars? I just don't
get it... What's next, a ban on perfume/cologne? Harleys should be banned
because they are ruining my hearing and lots of people get in crashes every
year, costing us millions. Loud stereos should be banned. Drinking
alcohol should be banned. Littering should be banned (four tons in one
year on whatever road that was in the paper today - ban those people's
actions, why don't you?) Urban chemical factories should be banned.

The dumbest thing about this whole smoking ban idea is that no one has made
one bit of effort to approach the indoor air quality issue with TECHNOLOGY.
If we can put a pair of go-carts on Mars, surely we can handle, control,
filter, and purify indoor air on Earth! I can use my Pur water filter to
drink from the Love Canal but there is no way to filter out a little smoke
from the air? I bet there is. I've been in "clean rooms" where not one
speck of dust can be found. But no, the politicians don't need to think
about technology when they can solve everything without it! Bullocks!

Everybody's got better things to do than trying to add a few more years to
smokers' lives. It's obvious people are more concerned with having a place
to go where they can enjoy themselves smoke-free than they do about the
health of the current patrons or employees of smoking places so cut the "We
care about you" crap.

This reminds me of the motors in the BWCAW issue - when people say "I
deserve access to Lake Ensign" I want to tell them that I should be able to
have an escalator installed on Mount Everest because I couldn't get to the
top otherwise and I really want to. When people can't/won't go to a bar
because it's too dangerous or too smokey, then they can't/shouldn't go
there. They should find one that suits them or find someone to build them
one.

"Mo-om, Billy keeps calling me names so I want you to cut his tongue off!"

Mom 1: "Johnny, maybe if we play our cards right we could get Billy to
stop."
Mom2: "I don't want you playing with that boy any more, you hear me?"
Mom3: "Tell Billy if he keeps acting that way he won't have any friends
one day."
Mom4: "Get me the knife, My Precious. Where is he?"

This is some Irish conspiracy, I know it is. (Now where's my bleedin'
Nicorette?!)

I think I know why it happened.

Dave wants to quit, and has for a long time. But as he goes around
schmooz ... chatting with his friends and constituents, all the places he
goes are full of smoke. Just full of it. It's almost impossible to quit
with all that smoke around.

And that's why I support the ban. I can't totally stop, either. When I
go to my favorite neighborhood watering hole (Patrick McGovern's, 225 W
Seventh, tell Jeanne I said "Hi!") I can't avoid the urge to light up.

Fortunately, I have to cut down on the booze, too, so this only happens
like once a week at most. But still, it's the principle.

So I support it because it's good for me, even though I still once in a
while light up. I think it'd be great to live in a world where I don't
have to worry about that.

And I'll be Dave is in about the same boat. :-)
