I understand the issue regarding a train crossing a highly used
street. However, how long would the delay be? A few second at the
most.

I agree, if you could put the light rail system below grade it
would eliminate those headaches. But the cost would not be
justified to save motorists a few seconds.

Come on people, other cities have light rail systems that cross
busy streets. How do they deal with these intersections?

By the way, I don't know how much the light rail system is
responsible for the traffic issues on Hiawatha. But I would bet the
issues with broken crossing arms is due to driver thinking they can
cross the tracks before the train gets there. I wonder how many of
these drivers drive through freeway on ramp signals also.

Going down University Ave is a bad idea unless you plan on going
underground.

It's not just Snelling Ave, it's also Lexington, Dale, Rice, it's
the
Tracks used by Amtrack, it's the over pass at 280.....

The only smart solution to keep the roads as they are, not
adversely
affect the area, and have the ability to connect to downtown is to

take it underground. Put up entrances at what ever streets you
want
connections to... and add them as you need them.

Has anyone given any consideration on how you route something
through
the worst nightmare of a freeway, history center, cathederal, major

hospitals, and capitol complex with the Union Depot? I didn't even

start to talk about which of the DT streets are we going to
completely give up if you go above ground.

The only logical solution is a subway... Heck they got that big
tunnel machine sitting someplace.... Make a hole!!!
