i can tell you it is more than a couple of seconds.
one afternoon i went up from shepard road on river road to the ford bridge.
the idea was i would go up there and cross the river and take 46th to the lake
and around it to cedar, to go south back to the mall. i waited 5 minutes
minimum to what felt like 15 to cross hiawatha. the reason being was as a
south bound train was pulling up to the station there, the crossing gates were
closed and remained closed as the train stopped at the station and then
continued on it way. just as it crossed 46th, off in the distance a north
bound train was on its way so the gates stayed down. once that passed and got
through the station, the gates finally opened. then we just needed to wait for
the light to change.
now maybe i just happened to hit that intersection at the wrong time. i will
accept that but the crossing delays will never be a few seconds.
