Hmmm... Don't know if this is going to help or stir up more confusion. I may or may not have solved the problem. For a week or so, I have been running the s900 w/o the side cover. (Although I can't recall if I had it off when the problem began) Anyway, this is actually a major feat because when I got the machine, w/ the Newertech G3 installed, I could never boot up w/o the cover. Had to put the cover back on, no exceptions. The prior owner had the same experience. But since I switched to the XLR8, it wasn't a problem, or so I thought. I've also heard of others here who run without their side covers.
But I put the side cover back on again and zapped pram and it is booting up from cold. Has a 1 minute hesitancy though that doesn't quite seem normal, but it is working on its own. (I need to see how it does after sitting overnight.) I also may need to cuda once again. I dumped sys prefs just in case as well. So I'm thinking that maybe having the side cover off has something to do with it. Kennedy, maybe this one is for you. What is the deal with running the s900 with the side cover off? With all the metal conductors, does the side cover perform say some ground function or something else? Dave -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
