You are not the only person I know of who has what is actually an old(er) machine that is still in the box, and never been turned on. A battery usually lasts about 4 or 5 years if it is "in use" in a machine. I assume you might get a few more years on the shelf, or in the box. My questions for you is: Is the PRAM battery still in there? Once a battery really goes bad, in begins to leak nasty stuff, that eats into other things.
