I had some serious trouble with my S900/Pulsar with Formac G3/400 which involved the screen not showing properly so I took it to a guy who is very trustworthy and is an old timer on Macs but little experience with Umax. He managed to get the machine working but only by replacing the original Ati video card (marked mach64-VR) with a Formac GA6.
Problem is now it will only work when I set the startup to be the volume with OS8.1 whereas I was running perfectly happily with 9.1 before the saga started (a month ago now!). The system will boot from OS9.1 but only with Extensions off. If I don't hold the Shift key down during boot the Welcome to Mac OS shows a few Extension icons and then the screen goes gray and starts flashing gray to dark gray. I can get back from this by the three-fingered reboot command and quickly doing option-command-P-R to zap PRAM a few cycles and then holding shift to boot into OS9.1 with the Extensions off and then reverting to OS8.1... I thought I'd start trying to track down what extension was doing the damage, so I unselected all extensions in OS9.1 but it still showed some icons and started flashing. Do I have to uncheck all control panels as well? Does anyone have any ideas about this? I'm beginning to lose my hair! -- -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
