Hi Sybil,

To isolate the offending file.

Holding down the shift key at startup assures that only software essential
to booting up gets loaded; if a disk can only be started with the shift key
down, this would indicate something is wrong with the additional software
being loaded, whether a corrupt file, a file loading in the wrong sequence,
or a process which is conflicting with another.

Also, when testing like this, it's a good idea to either move the items in
question to a folder named "Extensions (Disabled)", "Control Panels
(Disabled)", etc. or remove them completely from the System Folder,
otherwise they'll just be loaded anyway, but in a dfferent order. Of course,
that could be a solution, too ;-)

Peace,

paul
