Late Sunday... Have tried the suggestions below but there is a problem... I can only start up in OS9.04 with shift key down
If I start with space bar down I get the Extension Manager screen and make a copy of OS9 Base and deselect all control panels and extensions except Formac Control Panel called "ProGraphics" (there don't appear to be any extensions - is this right?) but when I hit Continue it soon goes into grey flashing So you see I can't actually get into OS9 to set the resolution for OS9 If I try to use the ProGraphics Control Panel after starting with Shift key down I get a message saying I need to restart with the Control Panel in the Control Panels folder - Catch22! One other experiment I carried out: I started in OS8.1 and set the resolution to the lowest (640 x 480 @ 60Hz) to see if this would carry over onto OS9 startup. I also used the Umax tool to zap PRAM). I then switched startup disk to OS9 and restarted with space bar down. The resolution of the OS9 Splash screen was at 640 x 480! I selected the OS9 Base Copy (which still only had ProGraphics Control Panel selected) and pressed Continue. Splash screen returned in 640 x 480 and then bang - grey flashing! I followed the three finger route to restart and after zapping option-control-P-R I restarted with shift key down and the resolution was back at 832 x 624. When I switched to OS8.1 the splash screen started at 832 x 624 but then switched to 640 x 480 when the icons started across the bottom of the screen. So OS8.1 seemed to remember the setting from before. One other thing I tried earlier was to start with space bar in OS9 line up the mouse on continue, disconnect the monitor, let the startup sequence complete and plug in monitor. It went straight to grey flashing... And I was feeling fairly relaxed after the weekend! > > On Saturday, July 20, 2002, at 03:52 AM, Tim Fenton wrote: >> >> A quick update: >> I found that by selecting certain resolutions when under OS8.1 I can >> get the grey flashing screen under this OS too!
