In fact he mentions having burned a disc with System 7.5.3 on it, albeit as an ISO 9660 image rather than HFS. The problem here though is not that the OS is too old--the original S900 shipped with System 7.5.2, and 7.5.5 is also available as an update--but rather that he only has access to a Wintel machine, and therefore is unable to create Mac OS volumes, neither floppies nor CD-ROMs. > Depending on which CDrom player his > machine has he maybe out of luck with using it to do an install to a > machine with no OS on it. Maybe yes, maybe no. As dodgy as they were, I was fortunate that I could always boot and install system software with my original CD readers. As we all can plainly read, this is not a given, but neither is it something to despair of. And I agree, besides the RAM, that would be my first upgrade. > Many of the 8x cdrom players will not boot > anything but the Umax system disk. Nor even that sometimes :( [Hold that thought; I'll take it to another thread] Hang in there, Chris. Peace, paul -- Paul F.
