My guess is that Chris already tried that. In fact he mentions having burned
a disc with System 7.5.3 on it, albeit as an ISO 9660 image rather than HFS.
The problem here though is not that the OS is too old--the original S900
shipped with System 7.5.2, and 7.5.5 is also available as an update--but
rather that he only has access to a Wintel machine, and therefore is unable
to create Mac OS volumes, neither floppies nor CD-ROMs.

Maybe yes, maybe no. As dodgy as they were, I was fortunate that I could
always boot and install system software with my original CD readers. As we
all can plainly read, this is not a given, but neither is it something to
despair of. And I agree, besides the RAM, that would be my first upgrade.
