Nice of you to offer to help the guy !
His main problem it would seem at this point is the fact that he 
doesn't have a bootable OS for his machine. 7.5.3 the Free download 
from Apple is likely available because it's not of use to anyone 
using anything newer then an 040 cpu machine. OS 7.6 is the oldest OS 
that will run on a UMAX machine.  Depending on which CDrom player his 
machine has he maybe out of luck with using it to do an install to a 
machine with no OS on it. Many of the 8x cdrom players will not boot 
anything but the Umax system disk.
Not using FWB to format the hard drive was likely the reason your 
problems ended ;-) In fairness to FWB if you were willing to spend 
money and upgrade with nearly every OS change you could still use it. 
In the case of 9.04 not only did you have to spend money you had to 
wait nearly a year for the upgrade! Later Will S
