Hey guys. Wow.. There was tons of responses. You guys are all very good help. Here's an update.. I don't have any original OS cds (go figure..) but the cds I got are all from isos. There is no OS installed on the hard drive currently. Does capslock turn on/off even when theres a blank question mark on the screen? Also, should I be able to move the mouse when I just get that question mark? If so then the ports are fried, right? =( I re-seated all the cards(ram, processor, video), and reconnected all the scsi cables. What does the cuda switch do? I just got the cd-rom to read my os9.2 cd, except it told me that I needed a newer OS to install or the original cd(probably lack of ram?)
The drive installed is a Matsushita-kotobuki drive (thats what it says on top of it anyway). It is terminated and the sector jumper is taken off. There are jumpers on "1" and "2" though. I can't get my os 7.5.3 cd to work.. Hrmph. Also, I have the 7.5.3 installation disks, but it says "this startup disk will not work on this macintosh model". Maybe the ram is screwed up. I tried a 7.5.3 network access disk and disk tools disk, both just give me a happy face. I wish there was a way I could burn the 7.5.3 CD from my pc (I have it loaded in basilisk II..) but I can't figure out how to burn a mac .img file.. I've read on people doing it by renaming it to an iso and burning it with nero but that really doesn't work. :) I guess, ultimately, my first goal would be to check to see if the keyboard/mouse work.. But from what I've gone through so far hasn't really accomplished much. :) Back to trying stuff.. -Chris -----Original Message----- From: SuperMacs List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of David R. I too have an s900 running 9.1. What else do you know about the machine? Do you know that the battery is OK? Does it boot normally? You say its "quiet as hell", the fan and power supply are working right? Is your keyboard responsive to anything or is it just that it doesn't respond to the boot cd commands? Can you zap pram at startup? (Command, Option, P, R at start-up) Rebuild Desktop? Things like that. If so, then does it read cd's normally when booted from the hard drive? If not, then hopefully the problem is connected to your cd/rom. Have you tried both boot cd commands? (c key for one) (Command Option Shift Delete for the other) Try blowing out the cd/rom with a can of air. Not too much pressure but enough to blow any dust from the where it reads. You definitely need more ram for one thing. As for the keyboard, mine doesn't flash either but there are lights for a few functions such as 'caps lock'. Re the mouse, if its the standard kind, have you cleaned the dust bunnies out from the roller ball? Of course, make sure everything is plugged in properly and check the tiny pins of the plugs to make sure none are bent. This happens often. I may not be here to continue helping, but the more info you give will be helpful to the process. Good Luck Dave --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
