I never learned monitor repair except in the most general sense. However, there are two resources which may help. The first is the Repair FAQ: http://www.repairfaq.org . This year it has saved my freezer and my VCR. The other is the news group sci.electronics.repair. The former is or started as the FAQ for the latter. You may ask specific questions in the news group. I don't know that they'll get answered, but sometimes they do. The difficulty I usually run into is that I'm hoping someone with experience with my specific problem will come along and say, "Oh, yes, replace C3 and D7 with these parts you can get at Acme Electronics." And what I usually find is, "Trace the mumble circuit and see if you're getting a high mumble mumble on the bias of the mumble." Which is probably perfectly helpful to someone with more experience, but usually a bit more investment of mental energy than I wish to make.
