Thanks very much for your answer. This confirms what I thought was the 
difference between the methods. With Sonnet great emphasis is made 
about getting and using the 1.0 version of the startup cp and 
installing it but the html procedure for XPF is notable in only 1 
mention of a startup cp. I didn't use XPF again after the install. I 
think I was swept away by the moment and I could use the Startup CP for 
X to go to 9.1 or back. What I have noticed is I can't go from X to a 
CD; I must restart to 9.1 and restart to the CD.  On the second S900, I 
won't use the 1.0 v cp; I'll let XPF do it. Thanks.
