I have turned off "Auto-Boot" in XPF, so that OpenFirmware gives me
the choice of typing either "boot" (OS X) or "bye" (OS 9). That way,
I can decide right after start up which OS I want, without having to
fiddle around with the different panels or to go through the whole
start process of one OS, only to choose the other.
