I too became suspicious after there were no upgrades and when it didn't work. There have been some reports on the OWC XPF forum of success so it may work for some in the most ideal conditions whatever they are. Also posted this question to the XPF forum and a poster said that the latest Sonnet version works equal to XPF and getting the Startup Disk control panel is not needed. When I paid $ 30, it was pure experiment and I got the results-the experiment failed but the theory remains:-) Before I did the reinstall, I dragged all the old files to the trash and then installed. However to my dismay, the files were recovered in a file called rescued items. OS X won't let me delete them either. I presume the Sonnet SW left a hidden file behind to save files in an accident or maybe that's a normal feature of Jaguar. I guess I could delete those files in 9.1. I'm a little nervous about that though. I'm thinking another reinstall after reformatting may be the only way to go to get rid of some of the quirks I'm seeing. Quirks like Norton 6 finding faults everyday with the same one (A major error was found in a file record in the Catalog B-tree. Node 9045, record 9 "admin.5b818fc0" has an incorrect data logical length. (10,7,36) The problem was fixed.) plus various others. X loads in 2min. 44sec but doesn't always keep the monitor settings or hard disk icons on the desktop can't be click opened all the time(-: Desktop rebuild helps that.
