After the recent posts regarding RAM/RAM testing, I decided to test my RAM
using TechTool Pro 3. Two evenings in a row I have run a full test
overnight, and both times I have awoken to find the machine locked up about
70-80% through the Minor March test. Only a "hard" boot will revive the
machine. I did another test with everything checked *except* Minor March and
Major March tests, and everything passed OK. As an aside, I tested this RAM
with Ramometer several months ago and it passed through several thousand
iterations without a problem.

Any thoughts on this?

A couple of items/questions:

1) I'm running two interleaved/matched 128MB buffered EDO DIMMs (60ns). What
are the specs for the two onboard 8MB DIMMs?

2) I'm using a NewerTech Maxpower G4/400 processor. There are a number of
options in the Maxpowr control panel I'm not sure about. How exactly does
the Backside Cache speed option affect performance? I have just left it on
the default 200MHz (400/2) setting.

3) I have also set the memory timing optimization to 60ns to match my
installed DIMMs. If the onboard RAM is 70ns, would this setting cause a
problem?

4) What application could I use to quantitatively measure the performance of
all these settings?

Thanks in advance for your replies.
