Be careful of running Gauge Pro with all of your RAM slots filled with 128MB
sticks, it will cause the machine to crash (not sure why- but has been
verified by myself and several other list members in the past). Not sure if
this also happens in TTPro as I don't have a recent version, but know that
the XLR8 PowerControl utility is fine in this regard, so used it mostly to
test my S900s full of RAM. Unfortunately though XLR8's software is not
freeware/shareware and only comes with one of their upgrades.

While I am on the topic I have two full complements of 128 MB RAM for my two
S900s, all from OWC. One set is all EDO and one set all FPM. One machine
runs fine with either set or mix thereof and tests the RAM as fine for all
sticks (using the RAM sandwich rotation) and 24 to 48 hours of testing each
time with XLR8 PowerControl. The other machine, will run fine and test the
RAM fine with any of the RAM test utilities with any 7 sticks from any set,
but put in an 8th stick from either set and it freezes just after startup,
before even running a RAM testing utility (OS 9.1, as on the other S900,
even tried swapping identical startup HDs and PCI cards between machines and
even running with just the video card and no other PCI cards in). Doesn't
seem to be specific to the last RAM slot either, as rotating any 7 sticks
around any of the RAM slots causes a functional non-crashing S900, that
tests all of the RAM fine with the utilities as long as there are only 7
sticks. This one has had me puzzled for a long time, but just put it down
to the individual quirkiness that seems to be a part of these machines.
Would be nice to work out why, but has taken more time than its worth
already plugging, pulling and testing. Any novel ideas welcome, though.

Cheers, Pete.
