I've got a couple mid 70s vintage Sansui receivers--one is a high end
that must weigh 20+ lbs/8 kg. Also a nice Yamaha cassette deck with
lots of analog tweaks. Everything was was simply picked up for the
cost of helping neighbors get rid of this stuff lest it end up in the
trash. They were throwing out these components and I couldn't bear
to see it on the pile. Each component came from a separate household
and I would ask how this sounded and they said, "Do you want it? We
don't know what to do with now." There's nothing like free stuff.

The one box I still miss is my Pioneer SX-450--low end but a great
tuner and a wonderful tone color. I can see why people pay big bucks
(still) for well designed RF analog equipment. The holy grail was
McIntosh so if you stumble over the McIntosh label, a)it's very well
made & b)you need a fork lift to pick it up. Oh, the smell of tubes
warming up...
