Or something inline to bump the signal level up? > > jess You need a step-up device with a turntable, which is why the phono input on a stereo receiver/amp is unique from the other inputs... It boosts the signal from a turntables phono cartridge. Therefore it's best to run a tape output from your receiver/amp to your S900, just as if it was a digital cassette recorder. -Howie
I have also read that there are other more technical reasons why a step up/matching device is required but since I didn't want to lug my hifi equipment to the computer I just took the deck (magnetic cartridge) and a little phono to mic adapter and plugged it straight in. I found that it is still possible to overload the recording if the gain is pushed up too far and the quality of recording is perfectly acceptable to my ears. So give it a go you can't do any harm?
