Yup -- Nathan Gilbert and John Trieu, I believe. They were never even told how to access that voicemail. They knew it was set up, since Nathan tried calling once just to hear what would happen -- but no one could/would tell him the password to the mailbox. They were let go about two weeks after Christmas, so early January '99. No warning, no severance pay, no explanation. With their termination, the last vestiges of UCC were gone. > Luckily they were still hobbling along and again gave me an RMA to return > the machine for the proper logic board and fortunately I got it back > working. Please don't hold that against UCC. UCC died in early January, 1999. Nathan and John, while one of them might have suggested sending it in, were probably gone before your machine even reached Fremont. Whoever ultimately "helped" you must have been with UTI, the scanner and PC division -- the same morons who were scrapping between 30,000 and 40,000 returned scanners per month because simply sending out a new one was cheaper and easier than fixing their service fulfillment processes or giving their agents enough training to solve problems over the phone instead of just giving an RMA. (On the plus side, we had some fun using their stupidity against them. I think I may have bought us one last month of employment by making up a bunch of federal labor laws and hurling them at a clueless UTI VP in a meeting. Man, that was fun.) Sorry for the ramble. I'm still very protective of the best co-workers and products I've ever worked with. -Kennedy Brandt SuperMac Insider (http://home.earthlink.net/~supermac_insider/) -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
