Bill, Well you've got a lot of feedback on the software and which disks to buy, but if I were you, I'd first determine that the unit works. Of course you will need at least one zip disk to find out. By chance do you know any other mac users? Zip is pretty common so the odds are someone will have a disk you can use. That way you won't have to buy a box of 3 or 5 disks and then find out the drive is dead. They do go dead too. If you hear a continuous kind of loud clicking coming from the drive when you put a disk in, well the drive is probably gone. But you don't know this yet.
Of course it doesn't need to be a Mac formatted disk and you can use one from one of your peecee friends, but I think for your purposes of determining that the drive is in working condition, having a Mac formatted disk will be easier. Otherwise, you will have to reformat your friends ibm formatted disk. An important thing to know about these drives is also that you shouldn't carry or move the drive around with a disk inserted. This can throw off the optical mechanism and ruin it. Another tidbit just in case, to remove the disk from the drive, simply drag the zip to the trash on your desktop. I didn't see whether or not you had a power adapter, but if not, you can usually find them on the LEM swap list for about $6. http://mail.maclaunch.com/lists/lem-swap/List.html I sold one on the swap list last year myself. You might want to post a request for one if it is needed. Hope this info helps. Dave -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
