What other Ethernet Extensions do you have residing in the Extensions Folder? One of those may be conflicting with MacPoet. I don't remember having to install any new extensions to get our DSL going under OS 9.1 But, then, I also remember you posted a day or two ago about some basic extensions that were missing from your system. > Anyway, it's time for shopping for a router now that the DSL connection > is working properly. With whichever brands you are considering, I suspect you can, with a little digging on their web site, download a PDF file of their installation instructions. That may be the only way to find out if they have decent Mac instructions. > As for Supermac content, LinkSys recently introduced a wireless > ethernet > bridge. which is suppose to simply wireless setup for machines such as > ours. I just went to LinkSys's web site and took a peek at the WET11 (I assume that is the one you mean) Sure looks better than the slow moving USB ones! > For this reason I am leaning toward LinkSys 4-port router to prevent > compatibility issues with the ethernet bridge if I want that option, > altough I am wanting to hardwire the setup initially. The hardwired stuff is much easier to configure. And, a lot less of a problem with security issues. > I am not 100% sure about firmware updates and firewall > features offered by various router brands. > Is this a consideration for Mac owners or not a big deal because they > are also tweakable through a browser interface ? The firmware updates are beyond me at this point. I am still pretty new at the DSL stuff too. As far as I can determine most of the routers give you a firewall feature, if they are configurable as a DHCP server. > I will make every effort to cancel the subscription under the old > address, which I haven't been able to log onto because some of the > settings were lost. Alan, you don't have to give up on your Earthlink email yet. Once you get your DSL set up functioning, you just need to configure your email client to check the Earthlink account for mail, in addition to your new Verizone account. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
