I think the final magic for me was restarting in Jaguar. The things that I set up just "took". The entire situation which had gone on for about a week was very frustrating. After everything was working, I deleted all the printers with the various ethernet addresses that I had tried. The printer is available to all machines on my network from OS 7.01 on an SE/30 to OS 10.2.6 on my S900. Well worth the trouble.
I rebooted (took time just to figure out how to restart--kept looking for the "Restart" choice under the Special menu!) but, alas, the printer wasn't found. I'll have to root around in the various fora (plural of forum) for tricks, if any. I think the big problem is the non-Appletalk nature of the printer.
