Thank you for your help - I'll be buying a used drive off ebay shortly. They're inexpensive. One further question - would either of the following model numbers be recommended over the other: CR-507-C or CR-607-C?

Another option would be to use the "hacked" Apple CD/DVD driver that many listers have had success with ... don't have a URL handy right now, but will try to hunt it down and post it (if someone hasn't already done so by the time I get around to it).

Note, Cal, that you might already have it in your disabled extensions folder, since you currently are running OS 7.6.1. To be perfectly clear: with the 7.6 CD-ROM driver - an Apple extension to go in the Extensions folder of your System folder - you do not *need* to buy a new *drive*. My daughter's S900 - running OS 9 and OS 10 - is still using its original CD drive, the Matshita CR-506.
