Hi Alan, >Just a suggestion that's not necessarily practical for everyone. >I have the same CR-508 24x drive and the non-bootability has never been an >issue for me. >If you can locate an external SCSI burner you'll be able to boot from it by >forcing it with Cmd/Opt/Shft/Del. I have two scsi burners for such purpose >besides using them as burners. Installing OS, running DiskWarrior or HDST and >emergency repairs or maintenance are all done by booting from one of these >external burners. I have more or less the same experience... At the moment there are a Philips CD-RW 5232 and a Philips DVD-writer 824 fitted inside the Umax, I can boot from both of these without any problems. Previously I also had a SCSI Yamaha CD-RW 8824 and Plextor IDE CD-R 4824 which booted the OS 9.2 CD just fine. That CD BTW contains the patched version 9.2, without any bells or whistles, the only CD/DVD driver present is the native unmodified driver from Apple. I've stopped using SCSI all together and put two Sonnet IDE cards in the Pulsar. Sometimes I wonder if I have a special Umax, when reading some of the horror stories here! Unlike many people I never had any issue with the order in which PCI cards should be plugged in either. Until now I simply plugged them into the first available slot that seemed like being the most appropriate for it. Five slots are occupied now, only one more to go :-) Cheers from Belgium Dennis -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
