I think it may HAVE been formatted with FWB tools
after all.

Last 2 gig drive I had, I transferred all the files to
my bigger 18 gig drive, formatted the smaller drive
under OS 9, and transferred everything back.
This was before the drives got fried.

This time, though, the hard drive was preformatted
with FWB tools. And using the ResEdit hack on the
Apple DVD/CD extension (even though it was a copy)
must have really screwed everything up.

The copy of OS 9.1 I used to install on the S900 was a
backup CD I burned. The original somehow got left back
in UT when I came back from there and it never got
shipped back to me.

I would've gone up to the Mac store to have this
problem fixed, but the Mac store here went out of
business, so I'm SOL.

Fortunately, I did two things that may help make sure
this problem doesn't happen again.
1. I bought an Apple CD-ROM.
2. I bought an Apple hard drive with 8.6 preinstalled.

I sure hope THAT will solve the problem. I'll just
make sure not to do anything that stupid again.

BTW. Is the XClaim VR 128 card better than the Rage
II/DVD or is it the other way around? (not that it
matters, because I'm getting a PCI Radeon card as soon
as money permits).

thanks for all your help, peeps. ( :
