I also have a problem with a TT card recently installed in a C500 using OS 8.6. The Apple System profiler recognizes the card and I now have millions of colors (only thousands) under the built-in video.
However, the 4.0.6 software can't find the card. I get an error message when trying to launch the control panel. And with the control panel I have only one resolution just as with the built-in video.
Perhaps another hardware issue?
It sounds like you have the Apple OEM version of the card which does not work with the TT drivers. You need Apple's "9600 Graphics Accelerator" to run the Apple OEM version of the card.
Does the card only have a single DB15 video connector on the back and no VGA (HD15) connector? If so, then you have the Apple OEM version of the card.
