Is there a limitation as to the physical number of SCSI ID#s that can be in use at the same time?
I don't know for sure, but at one point my S900 had a hard drive, two scanners, a CD burner, a ZIP drive and a film recorder, all on the external SCSI chain. There were some quirks - for example, even thought the SCSI address of the film recorder could be changed on the machine itself, it would only actually work on one particular address. The varying flavors of SCSI connectors, and the cables I had on hand also made reconnecting everything after a move a real exercise in puzzle solving - what can connect to what, which cable will reach to where, etc. But basically it worked fine, so I think your problem is something other than just too many SCSI devices.
Incidentally, I'm still using the same setup, with the exception of the film recorder, but with the addition of a second hard drive on the internal chain.
Good luck! -EAL
