SM 1119, How to change wmv default app?
Wmv web links tries to open with Windows Media Player.
I do not want to open wmv's with Windows Media Player.
WMP is not set on my machine. I get a pop up
asking to set it up.
I do not want to open wmv's with Windows Media Player.

If I download the file and set the registry to
open with other players (MPClassic, Irfan, etc.),
it works just fine.
I do not want to open wmv's with Windows Media Player.
Suggestions anyone?
Go to Preferences in the browser Edit Tools and scroll down to the
.wmv listing and change the default player to anything you have
installed to play a .wmv file.
Michael
Do you mean Helper Apps?
Yes.
If, so:
I set SM helper apps to use Media player Classic.
SM still wants to use wmp.
I removed all references to wmp in XP registry.
No change.
The next guess is to use the Windows XP Search tool and search for
movies with the .wmv extension. This will open up a Windows Explorer
type page showing you the file names, their path, and an icon showing
which application is set to play that type of file.
If the file type is not set to your preferred application then right
click a file and select Properties, from there you can change to
application associated with the file type

I removed ALL references to wmp in XP registry and
removed ALL references to windows media of any kind.
Then I created one from scratch for wmv using my
choice of players. No change.
Wmp must be hard coded in XP for web based wmv files.
The only remaining suggestion I have is to check the "Preferences" in
your preferred application to make sure .wmv is selected to play in that
application. Most media players have a section listing all the media
types it can play and allow the user to select or deselect a media type.
After making any changes be sure to reboot XP to make the changes
registered in the registry.
