It is possible to move some messages from an IMAP hierarchy of folders to the equivalent hierarchy in the local folders space,
you just have to do it one folder at a time,
you may have whatever time of history (and accounts)
those local folders can synchronized between several machines

So I don't think it is a good reason to stay in POP
