It is similar here. The computers aren't the barrier, the education
is. Even though the libraries are VERY well attended, few take advantage
of the community freenet computer terminals there. Now there are win95
machines with ISDN internet and you have to book in advance to get
on. It's that old graphical interface again. One is a well decorated
machine with a monochrome monitor and CLI. If you don't know the precise
thing to type, and in what order, you can't get anywhere. They offer
training every other thursday, but by then you've lost interest again.
I am still not certain where I'll find the recievers when I have computers
to go, but I'm so far from having the stock that it's just research anyway.
I had a few ideas, canvass the local aid societies to see if they know of
people that would benefit from the added communication benefit. I am more
interested in targeting adults who are isolated, rather than
families. Families have so much more access to resources already around
here, while single adults are neglected and ignored. It is more necessary
to one like that to join the cybercommunity where you can find support for
ANYTHING and make your own list to taste! While an ounce of prevention
(working with children) is worth a pound of cure (healing the adults); you
still must put out that pound of cure.
