Now I'll agree that Win devices are a loser, but I'd hardly blame that on
USB! The Winmodem should have been a fiasco, but I suppose if you're a new
user buying a first-time system that comes with one built-in, you wouldn't
know any better. And it's hard to get a new system WITHOUT one of the damned
things.
The most frustrating thing has been the products with no excuse for buying
off on MS-isms. I don't have all the info yet, but apparently my Nokia
wireless phone's IR port can't talk to my Palms IR port because Nokia used
some MS-bastardization of the Irda standards. I'm not 100% sure of this, but
so far a wonderful potential is unusable due to proprietary "improvements"
on standards.
Ah well, at least USB will -- eventually -- help eliminate that tangle of
cables hanging off the back of my PC!
