Let me tell you a short story, hoping strongly that you're able to learn from
it. Once upon a time in the early 80s there was a man in Germany, Theo Lingen.
He was a talented pianist, but instead of giving concerts he decided to found a
computer shop chain with the name VOBIS. VOBIS had shops throughout Germany and
in some neighbouring contries. It went everything fine until Mr Lingen decided
to get ride of the highpriced M$ products in the hundreds of his shops. He
equipped his own brand of PC with operating systems like NOVELL DOS, PCDOS or
OS2 and preinstalled products like IBM Works or programs from Lotus on them.
>From that moment on he got lots of trouble because some hardware manufacturers
and suppliers practised a hidden boycott on him. Sometimes they delivered,
sometimes not, and sometimes not enough. Than Lingen switched back to M$ and
everything was fine again. He tried the game once more, with the same result.
He had to switch back again. In the meantime, however, he lost too much money
and had to be happy that he could sell his chain to a warehouse company.
Theo Lingen is still relatively young but after selling his company he decided
to retire. He supports young talented pianists now. In the VOBIS shops you can
find everything - as long as it is from Microsoft - .

Is that the "fair competition" and the "regulating power of the market" in the
"free market economy" Bill Gates jabbering about at every time on every
occassion in every public forum?

If you still believe that this is simple "MS bashing" than you are far less
intelligent than I have believed about you before.

Apropos, intelligence: "Computers are for intelligent people. That's why the
market is limited". (Theo Lingen)

What do you think, is it possible that the aim of a company's marketing
strategy is to make _everybody_ believe they are intelligent enough to use
certain products, in order to extend the market?

Meanwhile we have the second generation of authors makeng their living
exclusively from writing books with 500-1200 pages for intelligent people that
were intelligent enough to choose certain intelligent products. (BTW how long
does it take to install a modem with an easy to use OS?)

Regarding your other points: For now you should be old enough to recognize that
there are zillions of opinions in the world about the same subject different
than yours. You also have the choice to get over it or to create your
own world. (In latter case you would need professional help, so I don't
recommend it).

Why should I develop a new operating system for idiots? (Microsoft has done it
already:-) ) Besides, there is a sufficient variety on OSes available.
I not only propagate diversity but also practise it in real life. HP-UX
A_N_D_ Windows95 at work (company's policy: No Windows for TP applications!)
Novell DOS A_N_D WfW A_N_D occasionally Linux at home. Of course, I also have
problems with my Linux installation, so I have to consult the handbook
frequently. However, it pays off, because I'm absolutely sure I won't get a
message written to my HD by a hacker while surfing the net just like in my
neighbour's case and the amount of viruses against Unix systems tends to zero.
BTW, in case of ILOVEYOU and other viruses, those highly qualified system
admins could wipe their faecal polluted anus (you see, I don't want to insult
your eyes with "shity ass") with their MSCP, MSCE and whatever certificates: No
security measurements, no backup strategy, no recovery strategy no
performance control and no staff training. (But perhaps this is exactly the
education the market needs.)

Last but not least: bandwithwasting.

That's what you do almost all the time. Only in latter days you learn to trim
that footer.

I do believe, in a democracy I also should have the right to violate
against netiquette or list policy, at least occassionally.
