Well, you have a point, but bear in mind that there are other options that
don't require DOS; Linux can be installed through booting the kernel off a
floppy disk just as you would with any other system.  Unfortunately most of
the whizz-bang distributions these days don't supply or provide the facility
to make such floppies, but those distributions aren't really going to
perform very well on machines of that specification.

BTW, don't you mean "not everyone can boot from a CD"?
