In some respects the point-and-click-Linux bigots are just as annoying as the Windows bigots. Just because they click on RedHat eye-candy instead of Microsoft eye-candy, doesn't make them Linux experts. Of my five PCs, only two have CDrom drives (neither bootable). Only one of the drives works with Linux. The other is an old SoundBaster (non-IDE) for which no Linux driver was ever made. It can't use the usual sbpcd driver -- my drive was a short-run SoundBlaster variation (dumped in New Zealand) that never went into wide circulation. I wish I'd known that when I bought it. So what do I do with a bootable CDrom? I can't boot it. I can't be bothered making floppies (even if that option is available). So I go looking on the CDrom for something that looks like a filesystem image (the iso directory is a good place to look) and boot that with loadlin.exe. Usually works like a charm (thanks to DOS).
