Could a window be opened in that downstairs room and a wire be fed out between
the edge of the screen and the window frame(as opposed to poking a hole in the
screen itself), and then reeled back in after the listening is done? How about
a "through-the-glass" coupler similar to those cell / ham / 2-way antennas for
mobile use? We are in a technical hobby here, and there are those amongst us
who know waaay more than me. So we should be able to come up with a solution
that works here. Perhaps scout out the hotel for an alternate entry point near
the lounge room? CRAIG

The last several years that I can recall, none at all. For example, when Al
Johnson brought his new Perseus in to play with (I think that was in '08),
someone had strung a short antenna with a MLB at the end of it (I don't
remember the model number, but I know Universal carries it...) inside the
building. That's hardly an effective antenna. One or two other folks had the E1
and were sharing it between that little antenna and just using the whip. How
can one have a 'Listening Lounge' without some sort of antenna, regardless of
how simple it might be? I know the hotel charges an arm and a leg for folks to
poke holes in the screens, but that can't be very popular with the staff, even
if they understand why they do it.

It's too late to think of this now, I'm sure, but certainly something that
probably should be considered in the future. 73 Mike

There's an official Listening room on the 4th floor. Not sure what the antenna
setup is there.
