Hmmm.. I had trouble setting it on one of the phones in my household. It
seemed odd that I was able to do it on some of the phones but not others,
but since I wasn't planning on using it anyway, I never really looked into
it. I'm wondering if your account has to be provisioned for it. You might
try calling customer service to see if it can be enabled. If your phone
rings and you don't pick up, you will be charged 1 min at whatever the
roaming rate is for the country your're in. If you set unconditional
forward, it won't ring, and you won't be charged anything.

I can't seem to activate unconditional call forwarding. I am doing the
right GSM code (e.g., **21*number#), but get an error. I can do conditional
call forwarding just fine on this phone.

Do I pay $5 for each missed phone call if I just don't pickup or have them
unconditionally forwarded?

Yes, leave international roaming provisioned on your account, but you can
set unconditional call forwarding to divert all incoming calls straight to
voicemail. This will prevent the call from coming to find you on the
foreign network and incurring roaming charges. I also like the peace of
mind that, although it may be ridiculously expensive, I still have the
ability to make outgoing calls if I needed to; an option you wouldn't have
if you completely disabled international roaming. Call forwarding can be
activating using the "GSM star-hash-pound codes" found under FAQ in the
group's files section, although what I typically do for simplicity is just
put my SIM in a Nokia and use the call forwarding menu to activate it.

Also on the topic of using call divert to avoid international roaming
charges, here's a solution that a friend of mine uses that may work for some
of you. He has a Vonage phone which he takes with him when he travels. He
sets unconditional call forwarding to send all incoming calls to the "local"
Vonage number, then calls ring through on the IP phone in the foreign
location. Be aware that you only get a certain amount of call forwarding
minutes, though. I think it's 500 per month, but I'm not sure.

If you have the Int'l BB data plan then yes you can use your BB as you would
normally here in the USA. If you turn off Intl roaming however I do believe
you'll prevent your phone from working not just for voice but for data as
well. Your phone needs to be able to register on the foreign network to
work. If you disable intl roaming you won't be able to do that.

I am going to be using my Blackberry overseas. In Indonesia, phone calls
are $5/min so I am turning off interantional phone roaming before I go.

With the International Blackberry, can I still web browse and use my phone
as a modem without any additional charges?
