Eckhard, those nine words would have made me jump for joy 4 years ago! I
had managed at that time to coerce a programmer friend to help me with the
project. We spent almost a year getting it underway, and were only maybe a
couple of months away from release of a beta version when he went and got a
more demanding job *and* got married. So he reluctantly had to
withdraw. I have his source code which he's given me full rights to, but
it needs some work, and is only a 4-holed version. I think it's written in
C++.

My spreadsheets have evolved a lot since that time, and can now handle
6-holed and 3-holed tablets and a wider selection of "techniques". I've
also developed helpful aids such as an algorithm to detect long floats and
a position table that is very helpful in working backwards to eliminate an
error.

But ... At this time I'm pretty committed to some other interests and
responsibilities, and I'm not convinced that there is any demand -- at
pretty well any price -- for such an application. I guess I knew this
before too, and did the research anyway because it was a challenge. Now
I'm not so sure I could muster the enthusiasm.

On the other hand, the beauty of the algorithms and the way the whole
tablet weaving "technology" can be represented as mathematical arrays is
just so entrancing that I can't hardly stand to think that the work will
someday be tossed into an electronic wastebasket as though it never
existed. Let's pursue this discussion further -- what are *your* reasons
for wanting to write the application? I'm sending this to the list rather
than to you personally because I'd like to hear what interest there is out
there.
