Thanks for the overview, Deanna. I'll take a stab at how I see TW fitting
into such a structure. These are just off the top of my head so just a
starting point for our discussion -- I hope everyone feels free to poke
holes in it and for sure add stuff.

Element Attributes
-----------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warp yarn colour, thickness, twist

Weft yarn colour, thickness, twist

Tablet #holes, threading, starting position, angles formed by holes,
warp yarn in holes, sequence in deck

Deck #tablets

Orientation weaver, weaving, pattern

Turning block binary matrix

Pattern warp yarn chart, threading chart, starting position, table of turns

I'm not sure how the "Orientation" part would work, but we DO need to
devise a way of factoring that in -- i.e. whether the weaver sits at the
woven end of the warp and beats toward her/himself or sits at the unwoven
end and beats away. In the first case it's advisable to follow the pattern
from the bottom up, whereas in the second the weaver would follow from the
top down. This has great bearing on the pattern.

Turning block is kind of equivalent to technique, but it's a much narrower
definition than the commonly held notion of a technique. For 4-holed
tablets it defines 5 basic turning patterns -- twining, 3/1 rep, 3/1 twill,
2/1 rep 2/1 twill (threaded-in designs, Snartemo and Egyptian diagonals are
variations of twining). A couple of years ago a summary of this approach
for 4-holed tablets was printed in Twist -- maybe some of you haven't seen
it but Janis may have back issues available.

Well, that's a start -- back to weaving now.
