I have also been away from TW for a while... concentrating on ply-split
braiding. But the beautiful traditional Asian designs and pattern graphs
in Otfried's book got me going again. I wove a band with motifs found in
the traditional Persian diaper bands, and am looking forward to weaving one
with Burmese motifs.

I have a friend who wanted to learn to weave letters to make an inscription
band in memory of a friend who died. She comes over every Wednesday night,
bringing her band clamped to her 4-foot board, and during this learning
stage usually weaves one or two letters each time. We are often quiet,
just concentrating on our own work. This is something I have begun to
really look forward to each week.

Today I am up to the "r" on the Textura Quadrata alphabet graphed by
Michael Cook. Since Sept. 11, my ideas for the alphabet book, "Please
Weave a Message" have been changing from one containing graphs for mostly
Roman fonts into something more inclusive (and more time-consuming and
difficult to do!) including graphs for other alphabets along with woven
messages of peace, hope, and compassion.
