I have every lens and accessory that Nikon made in the 1960’s including 4 different camera backs. I also sell digital cameras.  Chemical or Silver, film has a resolution of about 7 megapixel, there are now camera from Nikon and Sony which have 6 megapixel CCD’s and some 7’s are in the works.  The price on the Sony which also has SLR capabilities just dropped this week to $799.99 US, not for everyone but not bad either.

Subject: Re: slides

Depends on the purpose... slide film still has a much higher resolution than the average digital camera, and an optical 35mm is much more flexible. For pics of historical bands for analysis, and similar purposes, I'd _much_ rather have an old-fashioned slide.

Absolutely, although I hasten to add that I have not used a digital camera yet.  I love the flexibility of having slides:  they can be used in a presentation;  I can get excellent color prints from the ones I want.  When we go to Sicily later this year, I plan on taking two 35 mm cameras, one for color slides and one for black-and-white prints.
