The privacy problem with eircode is that it has no granularity in practice. All signup forms on the web will require the full code, because the 3-char one is uselessly large. It's fine if that web form is for a delivery for example, but it isn't if I just want to check a mobile operator's phone coverage, or to enter a local-area community. On top of that, I can (and often do) state my address as "42 bogus road, kilkenny" or some similar fakery to give my approximate whereabouts and stilll validate the form.
