The privacy problem with eircode is that it has no granularity in
practice. All signup forms on the web will require the full code,
because the 3-char one is uselessly large. It's fine if that web form
is for a delivery for example, but it isn't if I just want to check a
mobile operator's phone coverage, or to enter a local-area community.

On top of that, I can (and often do) state my address as "42 bogus
road, kilkenny" or some similar fakery to give my approximate
whereabouts and stilll validate the form. No such luck with eircode :
it'll either come back as "not in db, please correct" or point to an
unsuspecting random victim.
